Spreading the Word
"Therefore go and make
disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of
the Father and of the Son
and of the Holy Spirit, and
teaching them to obey
everything I have
commanded you. And surely
I am with you always, to the
very end of the age."
(Matt. 28:19-20 NIV)
Disciples International, a faith-based, non-profit
corporation located in Delaware County,
Pennsylvania, has launched a project to provide 1.5
million wallet-sized laminated Apostles’ Creed cards
for free distribution to men and women on active
duty in all branches of the United States armed
services and those recovering at U.S. military
hospitals. Distribution will be made through U.S.
military chaplains.

"This mammoth project was sparked by a desire to
provide our service men and women with a
summary statement of belief that is universally
honored by Christians, regardless of denomination,"
said David Komarnicki, president of Disciples
International."We wanted to give them something
that they could carry with them in the line of duty
and that was impervious to weather and other
conditions, and so we chose this small laminated
format."

Komarnicki noted that bumper stickers throughout
the land encourage Americans to pray for and
support the troops. "We at Disciples International
believe that our Apostles’ Creed project provides
prayerful and tangible support at the deepest level
of need, which is spiritual reinforcement," he said.
"These pocket-sized cards with their huge message
will provide daily inspiration to those in harm’s way,
whose commitment makes possible the freedoms
we all enjoy."

Apostles’ Creed cards are currently printed in 55
languages and may be viewed on the Disciples
International website at www.disciplesinternational.
org. Samples can be mailed upon request.

Disciples International is currently seeking financial
support for its Apostles’ Creed outreach to the
military.

"This is an opportunity for all interested individuals,
civic groups, veterans’ organizations, churches,
and mission-minded agencies to step forward and
show their support for the spiritual well-being of our
troops," said Komarnicki.

"We are ready to move forward with the 1.5 million
cards as financial support comes in," he continued.
"Our distribution system is in place, and volunteers
are ready to produce the cards immediately. All that
is lacking is adequate funding."

Disciples International is seeking broad-based
sponsorship in the amount of $200,000 to meet
production and distribution costs for the 1.5-million-
card project. Donations are tax-deductible and will
be deposited to the Disciples International account
at National Heritage Foundation, 6201 Leesburg
Pike, Suite 405, Falls Church, Va. 22044. Donations
can be sent directly to National Heritage Foundation
